pulis sa may tulay ng edsa-ortigas, (feb 27, 2006):
last friday, as i was going to work, i already knew there might be some threat associated with the people power anniversary. i also noticed, while i was driving down white plains avenue, that there were cops walking towards white plains. they were just walking, presumably to have breakfast somewhere. what ticked me off that day was that they were walking on the road, practically occupying the outermost lane for vehicles. so, needless to say, the motorists on the road still had to avoid the said offenders. isn't that some form of obstruction of traffic? jaywalking?
by saturday, as i passed the edsa gate of corinthian gardens, i was shocked to see all the cops lounging around on the two lawn areas beside the gate. some of them have already removed their upper uniforms. to make matters worse, some of them were playing cards, sleeping, and one of them was even stretched out on a hammock strung from a mango tree to the fence!!!
i have nothing against people who uphold the law. it's just that i believe that the policemen should be aware at all times that their actions will affect the confidence people will have in them. would a citizen trust a policeman who was out of uniform and sleeping on the job?
worst of all, yesterday, i passed the corinthian gardens area again, and i saw apalling signs of their stay there. there were plastic utensils, plastic bags, and styro containers liberally scattered all over the place. i don't think it was right for them to leave the place without cleaning up after themselves. after all, isn't there an anti-littering law bouncing around our local laws somewhere?
i appeal to the police here to please present a more decent face to society. i don't think it is asking too much to wish that the law-enforcers themselves live by the law. on a second note, don't they also catch people for sleeping on park benches at baywalk or luneta? and just what were they doing lounging around at corinthian gardens? it might even have been worse, if we consider them as trespassing at the time.
i'm sorry if this offends anyone. it just has to be said.
